Iceland’s Ministry of Industries and Innovation, which includes fisheries, has announced a 20,000 tonne increase to the mackerel quota compared to last year.

The 2016 quota for mackerel was 147,800 tonnes, and this year’s quota has been set at 168,424 tonnes. The 2015 mackerel quota was 172,900 tonnes.

The Ministry has stated that the Directorate of Fisheries will be taking applications for mackerel licenses from 10th of April, with allocations based on vessel track records 2007-2009.

Iceland remains outside the agreements on mackerel between the other coastal states and sets its own quotas.
