UK self-employed hit hard – that means fishermen

Anyone working for themselves in Britain is set to be hit by some hefty increases in the taxes they are required to pay, thanks to the Chancellor’s spring financial statement, as well as facing the prospect in the near future of some highly onerous changes in the way they declare their earnings.

The NFFO has written to Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond, urging a rethink on the proposal to substantially increase National Insurance contributions for the self-employed that was announced in his Spring Statement this week.

As the NFFO points out, the majority of fishermen are self-employed share fishermen, and the proposals are set to make thousands worse off.

‘A surge of opposition has already forced the government into a delay in implementing the changes and we are now hopeful that there will be a more fundamental rethink,] said NFFO President Tony Delahunty.
