Samherji’s factory trawler Kristina has been sold to Russia and will be delivered to its new owners next week. The trawler has been in Samherji’s ownership for more than ten years.

The 105 metre LOA, 22m beam Kristina was built in 1994 at the Factorias Vulcano in Vigo in Spain as Kapitan Demidenko, one of the Sotrudnichestvo series of trawlers for the Soviet Union and it became the largest fishing vessel in the Icelandic fleet when it was acquired and extensively refitted by HB Grandi in 2005, when it was named Engey RE-1.

Samherji purchased the vessel in March 2007 from HB Grandi and renamed it Kristina.

Since that time Kristina has had a ten successful years of operation, although under several names and registries at various times over the years.

Kristina began its last trip for Samherji on 16th September, sailing from the Faroes and commencing fishing the next day in the Herring Loophole zone in international waters between Iceland, the Faroes and Norway.

It landed 2180 tonnes of frozen mackerel in Hafnarfjörður last week after six days of fishing. The crew used the steaming time to Hafnarfjörður to finish freezing the catch, which came to a catch value of approximately ISK300 million, making this final trip the best one in Kristina’s career under Samherji ownership.
