Norway’s Directorate of Fisheries has awarded a second licence to harvest krill in Antarctic waters to Rimfrost following an independent evaluation commissioned by the Norwegian government.

The evaluation examined a number of criteria, including ability to maintain Norwegian interests in Antarctica, ability to preserve the Antarctic environment, the company’s financial situation and the its experience in harvesting krill in Antarctic waters.

‘With two licenses Rimfrost will have two krill trawlers operating in Antarctica,’ stated Rimfrost’s owner and CEO Stig Remøy.

‘These vessels will be equipped with new, patented and innovative solutions for harvesting and processing krill. In addition to production of oil for human consumption we will produce protein-hydrolysates, protein powders and expand into new areas such as aquaculture feed market as well as the pet food market. We will continue to innovate and provide the market with new and interesting products.’
