Liegruppen: Innovation Prize finalist
Fishing company Liegruppen is one of the three candidates up for the Innovation Award due to be presented next week on the first day of the Nor-Fishing Exhibition.
This year fourteen applications were received and passed to the judging panel, made up of Jan Henrik Sandberg of Norges Fiskarlag, Oddvar Staulen of Innovation Norway and Kjell Maroni of the Fishing Industry Research Fund.
Fishing company Liegruppen Fiskeri is no stranger to innovation and has broken new ground in the past, but this year it is a candidate for the Innovation Prize due to the high-tech, cost-effective fishing vesel Libas designed by Salt Ship Design and due to be built at a Turkish shipyard.
Libas will be the first fishing vessel to operate with its main engine running 95% on LNG, although it also has options for running on diesel.
Other candidates for the award this year are Sago Solutions, which has developed an innovative catch pod designed to protect longline catches rom predating whales, and Stø Technology which has developed a catch management system that aims to eliminate quality challenges associated with traditional trawl fishing.
The winner will receive a NoK100,000 purse and will be announced on the opening day of this year’s Nor-Fishing, 21st August.
