The 9th international film festival dedicated to fishing is being held in the French port city of Lorient from 13th to 19th of March.

This year’s Pêcheurs du Monde festival concentrates on themes of the relationship between people and the sea, the difficulties faced by fishing people, the struggle against marine pollution and the obstacles that government in its various forms presents – something the organisers describe as a common theme around the world.

The festival is highly international, presenting films from Italy, Iceland, America, the Netherlands, India, Senegal, Uruguay, Russia, Columbia and Belgium, as well as from France. The work of film-makers including Alain-Michel Blanc, Hervé Drezen, Loïc Jourdain, Mathilde Jounot, Séverine Vermersch and others is being presented during this year’s Pêcheurs du Monde festival.

A jury will award prizes to the best feature film and the best short film.

Details of this year’s festival can be found at www.pecheursdumonde.org
