Fisheries convention alongside Itech’ Mer

The twelfth Itech’ Mer exhibition takes place this year in the French port of Lorient, and this year aims to bring together the European fishing sector’s decision-makers as part of the three-day programme.

Itech’ Mer takes place 18-20th October with a three-day convention alongside the usual exhibition. The convention focuses on a separate theme for each of the three days; ships and men, fisheries in Europe, and fishing ports of the future. Anyone with an interest in fisheries is encouraged to take part and pose questions on the day.

The European fisheries day is expected to focus firmly on the implementation of EMFF and a robust discussion on the issue of Brexit is anticipated.

‘Personalities and European policy makers as well as major names in the industry have already confirmed their participation in this decidedly European program and we strive to reserve them the best home in Lorient,’ said Maurice Benoish, the President of the fishing port of Lorient-Keroman and the President of Itech’ Mer.

Industry figures from all the French maritime territories but also from Norway, Spain and even Morocco will come to share their expertise and experience. Among these are Norwegian boatbuilder Selfa Arctic, Vigo ship owners’ association ARVI, the UK SWFPO, the Assiation of Reunion Island freezer LonglinerOperators and the port of Safi.

MEPs Alain Cadec, President of the Fisheries Commission of the European Parliament, and Isabelle Thomas, Pierre Karleskind, Vice-President of the Brittany Region in charge of sea and ports and representatives of DG Mare, European organisations, from France, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK will take part in the discussions.

‘We will ask several industry leaders and we invite all those concerned to formulate their questions and send them to us so that the different speakers will be able to provide feedback at Itech’ Mer,’ the organisers state. Questions can be sent in advance to contact@seatosea.fr
