Cornelis Vrolijk joins GSSI

Dutch fisheries group Cornelis Vrolijk has joined the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) as a Funding Partner. Established in 1880, Cornelis Vrolijk is an internationally-operated family business, active in the catch, farm, process and trade of fish and shrimp.

‘Cornelis Vrolijk is happy to partner with GSSI,’ said Vrolijk corporate social responsibility manager Aukje Coers. ‘We believe GSSI plays an important role in the development and recognition of clear and consistent certification standards.’

GSSI managing director Herman Wisse commented that as a family business, focusing on responsible fishing practices with a long term-perspective and maintaining healthy fish stocks is integral to Cornelis Vrolijk's business operations.

‘This approach is synonymous with our global non-competitive effort towards more sustainable seafood for everyone,’ he said.

‘As Herman pointed out, responsible fishing operations are very important for us,’ Aukje Coers added.

‘We depend on the ocean and it is our job to sustainably catch the so-called ‘surplus’. This way, we can provide seafood to consumers worldwide today, while ensuring food security for future generations.’
