New UK beamer is Luyt yard’s largest contract

The Machinefabriek Luyt yard at Den Oever has been contracted to deliver a new 35.25 metre beam trawler for UK company Waterdance. The keel of the new trawler is due to be laid at the Ibis yard in Holland at the beginning of September and the completed hull is scheduled to be delivered next spring to Den Oever for fitting out.

The design of the new Georgina of Ladram BM-100 has been in development in close co-operation with Waterdance and it will have a 35.25 metre overall length, with an 8.70 metre breadth and a depth of 5.20 metres. Luyt has developed the design in-house, in collaboration with Marimecs Marine Design & Engineering.

Georgina of Ladram will have an electrically-powered 10-drum winch made by the yard, which will also supply the propeller and nozzle, and the main engine will be a 1000hp ABC.

The Luyt yard is the main contractor with responsibility for the complete construction project from design, hull construction, completion to commissioning and delivery.

‘We are very pleased with the collaboration with Waterdance,’ says Jacoline Luijt. ‘We have been working together for quite some time with regard to the construction of 15 metre crabber Nichola of Ladram E-1, which was commissioned earlier this year by Waterdance, with the hull expected to be delivered to our shipyard in Den Oever in September.’

She commented that the partnership demonstrates Luyt’s capacity to develop tailor-made solutions.

‘We look forward to see our joint vision come into service. With the construction of a ship of this size we are setting a new standard.’ Jacoline Luijt added.

‘We have worked transparently and together with Waterdance from the initial concept phase to offer a design that meets their expectations.’

Georgina of Ladram will operate as a beam trawler, fishing for sole, plaice and cuttlefish in South-Western UK waters, and its home port will be Brixham.

Jacoline Luyt said that Waterdance has become a longstanding customer at the Luyt yard. Sam of Ladram BM-188 underwent a major refit at the yard last year, and William of Ladram E-33 and Margaret of Ladram E-198 have both regularly been to Den Oever for engine and winch maintenance for some years.
