Freezer scalloper to be built in Spain

Canadian company Comeau’s Sea Foods, based at Saulnierville in Nova Scotia, has placed an order with Astilleros Armon in Spain for a new 50 metre freezer scalloper to be delivered in the spring of 2020.

The order swells the Armon orderbook, which is noticeably heavy on fishing vessels, including three trawlers to be built for Moscuzza in Argentina and four for Nueva Pescanova (three for Namibia and one for Mozambique), a factory freezer trawler for HB Grandi in Iceland and a number of other vessels, plus several awaiting confirmation.

The new scalloper for Comeau’s Sea Foods is designed by Allswater Marine and a 20-moth construction period is expected. The name of the newbuild has been announced as Lady Comeau III, named after Thérèse Comeau, the wife of company founder Bernardin Comeau.

Comeau's Sea Foods has a seventy-year history behind it and the company handles herring, mackerel, salmon and cod, as well as scallops.

‘This vessel will provide a new harvesting platform that will enable Comeau’s Sea Foods Ltd to continue to supplying superior quality MSC-certified scallops for years to come, commented Comeau’s Sea Foods president Noël Després.
