Trawler/scalloper order for Piriou

Fishing operator Armament Jean-Baptiste Marion, based at Grandcamp Maisy in Normandy, has gone to Piriou's Lorient yard to place an order for a new 16 metre fishing vessel designed by Coprexma to alternate scalloping and trawling.

‘This order confirms that Piriou intends to be closely involved in the renewal of the French coastal fleet,’ commented Piriou managing director Vincent Faujour.

‘The Piriou Lorient yard, located in the port of Keroman is a location dedicated to the construction of fishing vessels of under 25 metres, with a team organised to be able to efficiently handle such construction projects as well as maintenance of vessels – such as Jean-Baptiste Marion’s current vessel, Telemaque 1.

The 15.95 metre, 7.20 metre breadth trawler/scalloper is designed by Coprexma and is to be built at Piriou’s Lorient facility with a delivery date scheduled for September next year.

It will have a Cummins KTA19 main engine driving a 2000mm diameter fixed pitch propeller. The hull is built in steel, with an aluminium superstructure and wheelhouse. Accommodation is for a crew of up to six.

Armament Jean-Baptiste Marion was established in 2003 when he acquired Telemaque 1, and he is from a family with a long tradition of fishing form Grandcamp Maisy.

‘I contacted Piriou to discuss the project and appreciated that we could talk directly to each other and that they listened to what I asked for,’ Jean-Baptiste Marion said.

‘I have been to Piriou Lorient several times for maintenance work to be carried out on Telemaque 1 and have always been satisfied. So it was logical to go to them to work on ideas for a new vessel.’
