Icelandic longliner order for Polish yard

Icelandic fishing company Vísir is reported to have placed an order for a new 45 metre longliner to be delivered in mid-2019, the first newbuild of this size in the company’s history.

The Grindavík-based company operates a number of fishing vessels and specialises in longlining, also processing catches at its own factory.

The contract has been signed with the Alkor yard in Poland to build the 45 metre by 10.50 metre beam longliner, designed by Nav√≠s, with construction expected to begin early next year. The cost of the new vessel is put at ‚ā¨7.50 million.

Expected to replace existing longliner Páll Jónsson, the newbuild will feature three decks, Caterpillar engines and fishroom capacity for 420 tubs, as well as accommodation in 14 single cabins.

The Alkor yard has already carried out a number of extensive refits for Icelandic owners, but the new Páll Jónsson will be the yard’s first complete newbuild.
