New Lunar Bow from Karstensens

The Buchan family has signed a contract with the Karstensens shipyard in Skagen for a new pelagic vessel to be delivered in January 2020, replacing a vessel built in 2008.

The new Lunar Bow is a Karstensens design and will measure 80 metres LOA with a 16 metre beam.

It will have a W√§rtsil√§ propulsion package with a 10V31 main engine, twin Caterpillar C32 auxiliaries, Karm√ły Winch deck equipment and a Johnson Controls RSW system.

The contract for the new purser-trawler was signed at the DanFish exhibition yesterday by Knud Degn Karstensen and Kent Damgaard of Karstensens Skibsværft and skipper Alexander John (AJ) Buchan.

‚ÄėIt‚Äôs a big step up for us and this will be similar to the latest vessels, Kings Cross and Pathway, with similar capacity,‚Äô he said, adding that Lunar Bow will be half a metre wider and with a metre more length.

‚ÄėKarstensens are definitely doing something very right and we‚Äôre very happy with their product,‚Äô he commented.

He said that the decision was taken to stick with a vessel capable of alternating purse seining and trawling.

‚ÄėWe think it‚Äôs beneficial to have purse seine-caught fish for some markets. We purse seine for mackerel, and trawl for all our other fish.‚Äô

Lunar Bow joins the company’s two existing vessels, Kings Cross and Pathway, both recent deliveries from Karstensens Skibsværft.
