Dalvík welcomes Björgúlfur

Samherji’s new fresher trawler docked in the Icelandic port of Dalvík a few days ago for the first time after steaming home from the Cemre yard in Turkey.

The 62 metre by 13.50 metre beam fresher trawler Björgúlfur is a sister vessel to the Kaldbakur that was delivered earlier this year, and which is having its processing deck fitted in Akureyri, with Björgúlfur next in line for the same installation.

The latest Björgúlfur is the third trawler to carry the name, and the old Björgúlfur, now renamed Hjalteyrin, steamed out to meet its replacement as it arrived. Sigurður Haraldsson, who skippered both of the previous trawlers of the same name, was on the quay to take the mooring ropes as the new trawler docked for the first time.

Björgúlfur is the second of four sister vessels designed by Skipatækni. The third in the series will be delivered to Fisk Seafood and the fourth to Samherji later this year.

Björgúlfur’s skipper is Kristján Salmannsson, relief skipper is Markús Jóhannesson and Halldór Gunnarsson is the chief engineer.
