Cetus places additional new vessel order

Norwegian fishing company Cetus AS, based at Vea on the island of Karm√ły, has placed an order for a new pelagic trawler/purse seiner to be built at Fitjar Mek. Veksted.

The company’s new Cetus is due to be delivered by the yard in February next year, and this second vessel, designed by Salt Ship Design, is scheduled to be completed in the autumn of 2020.

Vikingbank is a 65 metre LOA by 14 metre breadth pelagic vessel designed to alternate trawling and purse seining, and incorporates a high level of technology to maximise efficiency and minimise its environmental footprint.

The new vessel is locally designed by Salt and locally built, and many of the suppliers involved will be from the locality.

Fitjar Mek director Hugo Strand commented that over the next two years, the yard expects to deliver ten new vessels.

Salt Ship Design is also busy, with twenty new designs under construction, including seven fishing vessels and five for the aquaculture sector.
