New shrimper for Jutland partnership

Danish fishing company S107 Skagerak ApS has placed an order for a new 28.05 metre shrimp trawler to be built at Karstensens SkibsvĂŚrft. The new vessel is part of a merger of two existing operators, and sees a generational shift in the fishing industry taking place as new owners take over a well-established operation.

S107 Skagerak ApS is a merger of the owners of Ulla Lindblad S-107 and Well-Bank S-430. Ulla Lindblad’s owners Lars Mose is a shrimp fisherman with a long track record behind him, and he now plans to retire from fishing, with the new venture taken over by Well-Bank’s owners Jens Chr Bang Andersen and Thomas Kristiansen who have been involved in fishing for langoustine and industrial species in the past.

New fisheries management regulations make it possible to maintain acceptable quota shares for shrimp, providing the necessary financial security for the newbuild.

The order for this new vessel means that Karstensens SkibsvĂŚrft has fourteen fishing vessels on its orderbook over the next two years, while the order for the new Skagerak also represents a return to building smaller fishing vessels.

The design and choice of equipment have been decided by the company and the yard, with emphasis on optimised working conditions, safety and crew comfort. Skagerak will have a 28.05 metre overall length with an 8.40 metre moulded breadth and a depth to the shelter deck of 6.40 metres. Some of the equipment has already been selected, including a hydraulic deck equipment package from Thyborøn Skibs & Motor and a Scanmar catch monitoring system.

Skagerak’s steelwork will be delivered to Skagen from the Karstensen yard in Poland next year and the new trawler is scheduled to be delivered in January 2020.
